“all music is spiritual. to listen to music ….most of what we do is arbitrary. we recreate the world in our minds. but music is real because it follows the laws of the real universe. an octave is twice the vibrations of the octave below it. a fifth is a known thing. there is a cultural bias… there’s a cultural tendency, for instance, what we think of when we hear a minor chord may not be what people in india think of when they hear a minor chord. but generally speaking how that feels…it’s undeniably direct. it doesn’t have the human filter on it. and yet it is a uniquely human process. when you combine that with a lyrical message that either is supported or contrasts with the music, it’s a powerful thing.”

All About JiandaLove:

A health-conscious artist, musician, vocalist and widely-published writer, Jianda’s also a poet, guitarist, photographer, actress and singer-songwriter with singles/albums that are both self-released and available on several international independent labels including: Om Records, Merck, Ghostly, Kinkysweet Records, Jam Recordings/Jam Music Australia and Gammaphone. She is also currently studying holistic healing modalities and therapies.

A regular Pride, Open Mic and Feature performer, Jianda’s many genres include electronica, conscious soul, jazz and acoustic folk. In various venues, she primarily performs as a solo acoustic act. Jianda also improvs and jams with DJs, rap artists and other artists, performs her poetry or that of others and collaborates in staged readings live and in-studio.

She spent many years creating content and artist promotions for the then San Diego-based MP3.com, and also facilitates and teaches workshops. You can hear some of her interviews by clicking here.

She’s written, recorded and videotaped interviews, prose, features, reviews and interviews for websites like MP3.com, (the sadly defunct) ChickClick, SonicNet, Consumable Online, B-gyrl.com, Femmusic.com, BlogCritics, Saucyvox.com, Doorknobs and Bodypaint, UC Irvine’s “Faultine,” ScarletLetters, CleanSheets, About.com, RollingStone.com, Emusic.com, Africana.com and GoGirlsmusic.com. She sings. Plays guitar and piano, and writes screenplays and songs…. Mouthsful.

Look for “Faster Pussycats” (Alyson) and “Zaftig: Well-Rounded…” (Cleis Press) in progressive bookstores near you–she’s in them.

Previously, she was an editor and contributor at RollingStone.com, EMusic.com and MP3.com, doing promo and A&R for artists of all stripes. Passion Flower is her drug of choice. Sample her wares at SugarmamaPR.com & Jianda.net.

She has worked in label promotion, and is a featured recording artist in Faith Trimel’s feature film, “Family.” She’s also been a regular contributor to The Lavender Lens and various other publications. Jianda enjoys a sincere love for harmony, cultural enrichment, and communicating love through entertainment, art, sharing, and song.

Good Morn, or Evening, Friends:

I come bearing gifts from the soul, updates from the Spirit Garden,

calm to you.

Downtempo love, bumpin’ through basslines. Visit Out Records for a

*Stayin’Human – Replife Represents*

Dearest of the dear, Replife’s forthcoming “the UNCLOSED mIND,” to be
released this year on Futuristica, promises to take your mind through
to expansion and beyond! I’ll be featured on one of the tracks there,
too. Keep your ears open for it, mkay? Visit his website for a glimpse
of all the good there is, and is on its way. Contact him, too, for a
free copy of his digi-mixtape “humanoid,” including music by such
notables as Jazzanova, Roy Ayers, New Sector Movements, and more.

*Multi-Dimensional Filmic Voyages – Tycho’s Flow*

Tycho’s new releases on Merck Records (Past is Prologue, Past is
Prologue Sampler, and singles on Squadron 2 CD and Box Sets) represent
a progressively impressive body of work. Influenced by the finest
electronica/ambient/IDM artists from the past and present, this new
release (an elegant extrapolation of his self-released Sunrise
Projector album) has been appropriately called a “soundscape–” a work
of art. My vocals are featured on a few of the tracks, a couple of
which are newly released. Highly enjoyabe, high-grade,
cold-lamp-apropos goodness.

Order / Hear Past is Prologue:

*Water, Love & Sunshine – All I Need for Feelin’ Fine *

My track with DJ Freestyle on the Australia-based “Hemmesphere Five”
double-CD compilation’s being well-received. 3DWorld coos: “The latest
Installment in the classic Hemmesphere Series: Summer On CD! ‘I can’t
find fault with the fifth instalment in the Hemmesphere series. [I]t
drifts effortlessly through percussive instrumentals, soulful grooves
and uber-chic lounge beats. Ideal stuff for a classy dinner party or a
lazy afternoon in the herb garden…’”

I also love that a lot of my hero(in)es are featured on it as
well, including: Lisa Shaw, Grace Jones, Nina Simone, Nouvelle Vague,
Roy Ayers & Basement Jaxx.

Other than that, I’ll save all the truly edgy prose and such for the
gonzos, out there on the frontlines. Et moi, I’ve been taking a
one-year sabbatical from performing. Martinis, anyone? Meanwhile, my
music children have been reverberating hither, thither, zither, n’
yon. Ain’t that some sweetness and light? Dag.

I’ve been following the formula: part work, part play, part restful
enjoyment in a Ji-way. I’ve been writing a lot of acoustic tracks,
creating digital art for love and rent, and have booked a couple of
performances for the months ahead. More recordings are coming, too.
Studio buttons and knobs, woofers and tweetz, they’re really palettes,
you know?

Special thanks to Hillquest.com for the love and pics, Anji Bee and
Netteradio for the podcasting support and Thank You, for Loving Music and Art as Much as I do.

I’ll keep you posted as the flowers continue to bloom.

Stay in Love,

Jianda

September Sabbatical: Music and Wine

Dear Valentines (each day is Valentine’s Day),

Hi.

Are you busy? Is your heart happy? (Hug) What a coincidence! I’m busy
and my heart’s happy, too.

SHOW NEWS:

One gig per month? Well, I didn’t make it this month. September has
been a “phenom.” My birthday month. Changes came like oceanic waves.
All good. A record label’s going to place some of my music on a
compilation, I’ve reconnected with a lot of wondrous folks in the
meantime, and many new spiritual and professional vistas have been
opening up. I’ve been catching my breath and in a state of love,
gratitude, and pleasant surprise all month. Haven’t focused too much
on performing.

Ah well… Love happens.

In October (Oct. 21) I’ll be performing at Miracosta College for an
all-girl benefit concert. . A fundraiser for the American Cancer
Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. So gig will be
had, and it’s a love-love one (doesn’t “love love” sound more fun than
“win-win?”) ;) More details next month.

JIANDA NEWS:

Music
Once the deal’s sealed and the promo begins I can tell you more about
this delicious label. All I can say right now is it’s my distinct
pleasure and honor! I recorded this track with Patchen at Treehouse
Records
and we’ve been tickling ourselves, delighted, for the past few
days.

Today, I did go in studio to work on yet another project. I warmed up
the mic with some lovely vocals for an extremely talented artist and
great thinker named Daniel Gray-Kontar. A *true* Conscious Hip Hop
artist (so much so it goes beyond genre). Reppin’ Philly, Daniel’s an
all-around good guy and it’s a blessing to be working with him.

Also, Tycho continues to grow and to promote his music (check out his
new T-shirt gear, too), and is going back in the studio to use some of
my vocal work in his upcoming project. Some of my vocals can also be
found on his highly-acclaimed, most recent album, Sunrise Projector.
There’s so much wonderful music out there. Please believe! (Tycho can
be found at: www.tychomusic.com).

I’m back in the Flow and ready to play! Always open to more and more
musical collab. Holler at a sistah.

Photos
Same deal…More photos than you can take a stick at @:
flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/jianda), in addition to all
Jianda.net exposure/s (www.jianda.net/photos.htm). I wanna take
your picture, too!

Prose
Sound familiar? I update my journal on the regular at www.jianda.net,
and continue to moderate and nurture a beloved Artist’s Way enclave
(www.sugarmamapr.com/aw.htm).

Web
You can always find me at www.myspace.com/jianda.

Also, I’m featured in EveryWoman magazine for the month of October.
It’s indie, and I dig that. Any energy is good energy. Support
EveryWoman and visit. Most importantly, enjoy it all. There’s also a
free download of my music to be found there.

Their URL is:

I’m also blessed beyond words to be contributing editorial content at
www.HayHouseRadio.com these days. It’s great, positive, uplifting radio, and maybe you’ll feel my loving in some of the copy there. Does that sound good to you? It feels good to me. So, yeah. I might call that a win-win. . .

Thanks for reading and for your kind attention.

Enjoy What You Do and the World Will Too,

(Sung to the tune of Nada Surf’s “So Quiet.”)

You’d think as summer revs up, I’d be on fire.
Not so, Grasshopper.

Still keeping active, though.

Hope you’re happy and active, too. So happy. : o ]
SHOW NEWS:

I performed again at R Spot this month…I’m kind of on a “catch as
catch can” artist track…I guess that’s what you’d call “artist
development.” Thus far, for the last few months anyway, I’ve done
open mic performances there–it’s quite comfortable, and comforting.

All good things must…move–and so, R Spot is indeed moving in July.
I’ll have to find a new spot. Such is the beauty of life. Can’t
rest easy in the comfort zone(s), you know. Must keep on blooming.
Such is the beauty of (our nature).

While my “1 Gig Per Month” pledge is quite nice, as I gain more
experience I’m sure a natural velocity will take place. No more
rushing this experience. I’ve got my whole life long to continue to
express myself. Don’t we all.

SOUL SERENADES
As for Soul Serenades, I’ll be putting the word out about them, and
making myself available to do small, intimate sets in homes, and at
parties. Very reasonable rates, and given enough notice, I can
tailor a set-list for you, too. As it stands, this is my
advertisment for such “innertainment.” I’m choosnig to let that grow
organically, too.
—————-

JIANDA NEWS:

Music

Aside from sending out demos, all’s quiet. I plan to (FINALLY!)
Upload music on this web this summer for promotion only–and finally
get the funds together to pay for past production. Thanks for your
patience, AB+.

Photos
Nothing but photographic bliss at the ol’ FlickrStead. I invite you
to come and join (http://flickr.com/photos/jianda/) me.

Prose
I update my journal on the regular at www.jianda.net, and continue to
moderate and nurture a beloved Artist’s Way and Walking in this World
enclave (http://sugarmamapr.com/aw.htm).

Web

I’ve taken on a new Web Marketing client after long hiatus. More
organic velocity (see: bamboo plant, willow tree) to follow.

As always, I thank you for your time and support. Feel free to
forward this email to a friend you feel might take an interest in
finding out more about my art. I’d love to hear about yours, as
well. Please feel free to ping my spirit.

Please take good care of you. Do something you really love, and hang
with those you love, and who love you. That’s what this
whole “expression” thing is really about.

Offline

I’ll be forming an Artist’s Way group in July–a free group. If you
live in the San Diego area and you’re interested in participating,
please feel free to send me an email, and I thank you for your time,
sincerely.

"March Forward" campaign's ocming along nicely. I'd vowed to do 1 gig
